NATHANIEL

CURRENT SCHOOL: Oregon State University

Junior in College, Undergrad ( c. 2020)

Did you feel well-prepared for your current school by your education at CLASS Academy?

CA taught me how to learn. The focus on my learning as an individual was very helpful in my development. The coursework and homework prepared me for high school and college. The focus on public speaking has helped and will continue to help me as I pursue a career.

What was the biggest adjustment after leaving CA?

I moved to a new school for 7th grade, after attending CA since preschool. Meeting new people was the biggest adjustment.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

In HS, I was a member of the band for all four years. I was also in Cross Country all four years. In college, I am focusing on coursework but still run for fun.

What are your college and/or career goals and aspirations?

I hope to get a masters in electrical engineering. My ideal career after my masters program would be related to system design.

Please share any fond memories of CLASS Academy.

Spending time with my friends, playing at Wallace Park in the summertime, practicing for Spring Performances, drawing maps in art class, and my speech about crayons.

NELLIE

CURRENT SCHOOL: Jefferson High School

Junior in HS ( c. 2020)

Did you feel well-prepared for your current school by your education at CLASS Academy?

After leaving CLASS Academy, I had a strong ability to take charge of my own learning. I developed strong study skills at CLASS Academy. I was even placed in advanced math classes.

What do you like about your current school and what was the biggest adjustment?

There is a strong community within the school between students and teachers. I appreciate the opportunity to take real college classes at PCC while still attending HS. My biggest adjustment was missing the small class sizes and one-on-one help we received at CA.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I play club and HS soccer and run track for Jefferson. I also participate in Mock Trial and a variety of different clubs.

What are your college and/or career goals and aspirations?

I hope to play soccer in college as well as study criminal justice or sports management.

Please share any fond memories of CLASS Academy.

I attended CA for 10 years and some of my favorite childhood memories were made there. I enjoyed all the hands-on activities and having art every day. I loved putting on holiday concerts and the teachers/staff.

LUCIE

CURRENT SCHOOL: St. Mary's Academy

Junior in HS ( c. 2020)

Did you feel well-prepared for your current school by your education at CLASS Academy?

I felt very prepared, especially in math and science. CLASS began my interest in science based competitions. At St. Mary’s I’m on the Science Olympiad team and we hold the state championship title.

What do you like about your current school and what was the biggest adjustment?

I enjoy the close community and rigorous academics. The biggest adjustment was moving from a school that actively celebrates multi-cultural holidays to mainly only Catholic holidays.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

Cross Country, Track and Field. I am also a member of my school’s Equity Team, Ambassadors program, Principal’s Council and Science Olympiad.

What are your college and/or career goals and aspirations?

I plan to attend a college with a strong aerospace engineering program and would like to pursue a career in this field.
